Home Sweet Home...Well Sorta

About a months and a half ago my husband and I made a HUGE decision, like really huge. We decided to move our family 1 hour and 45 minutes away from our Detroit home to Battle Creek, Michigan.  Now, to most people that's no big deal. It's not really that far is probably what you're thinking, but to our familiy we may as well be moving to California.

So why leave the only city that we have ever lived in and all of our family in the wind? Simply put we found a home in a little town and fell in love.

Since we are going to be away from all of our friends and family I decided to blog our new adventures. Follow along as we fix up our new home room by room on a budget and find our way through our new town.

ABOUT OUR NEW HOME:
Built in 1888 the 2500 sq ft home is located in a historical district in Battle Creek. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. It's also has a den with a fireplace, a library with 4 built in shelves and a bench with storage under a huge lead glass window. The front porch is screened in and it has a deck in the backyard that we plan to host alot of BBQs on. The park is literally behind our backyard and my son's school is in walking distance, just 2 blocks away.

Take a look of some pictures:

Exterior

Living room (before the carpet and wallpaper was removed.)

Staircase leading to the second floor. This is also where we will be putting our mudroom.

LIBRARY aka my craft room

Den/Game room (yes that is paneling and wallpaper and a mirror puzzle and floor tile and purple carpet..ugh!) That door leads to a walk-in pantry that connects you to more storage,  the basement and the kitchen! I kinda love it.

Kitchen:
The fridge goes to the right of this bar area and the basement and pantry areas are through the unseen door on the right. The left door goes to the dining room.
The door to the left leads to the deck. (Oh and yes that is paneling in the ENTIRE kitchen.)

Master Bedroom: yes that's wallpaper topped with a matching border. When I started to removed it guess what I found?  You guessed it, more wallpaper!  Apparently the previous owners, I'm assuming back to 1888 when it was built hated the sight of painted walls. They made it their life  goal to cover every inch of the home with paneling or wallpaper.  The great thing about the room is the size. It's about 25 ft long so there will be no problem fitting our king size bed.

Boys room: which is attached to their shared playroom. Wallpaper and carpet are now removed.

Upstairs hallway mural... yeaaaap. There's that.

Oh, and we have a pink bathroom complete with a tree in lake design to please the eye whilst showering. The Hubs can't wait to destroy this room. I don't mind it as much.

The movers just arrived to start the load up. I'm expecting this to take a few hours.

xoxo, Shelly and her super cool family.
